Rewild Landscape is a Toronto-based garden design studio run by Jing Howard.
Jing believes in the transformative power of landscapes and biophilic design. Drawing on current research in designed ecology and inspiration from natural grasslands and meadow habitats, Jing specializes in creating emotionally engaging landscapes that have a sense of well-being and a healing effect.
Trained in landscape design at the University of Guelph and George Brown College but mostly self-taught, Jing is a passionate advocate for ecological design and restoring biodiversity in residential gardens and public spaces. She combines immersive composition and simple materials with a naturalistic planting style to achieve visually appealing, ecologically functional, and self-sustaining designs.
Before founding Rewild Landscape Design, Jing had a successful career as a Health Economist, working on complex projects that improve healthcare quality and health system performance. She holds a Master’s degree in Hospital Administration and a Master’s degree in Evidence-based Medicine. She brings strong research and project management skills as well as curiosity to her work as a landscape designer. She is a plant nerd and gardening addict!
Unlike traditional landscapers, Rewild Landscape Design focuses on a plant-driven, ecology-based approach, bringing as many natural elements as possible back to the built environment in a meaningful way that resonate deeply within people. We see planting design as an art form, tuned to nature. We strongly believe that this “artful ecology” is the future of landscaping, and where the need is the greatest is in the urban and suburban context.
We also believe natural, biodiverse landscapes should be within reach for more homeowners. Our services are structured to be flexible and accessible, making it easier to transform traditional lawns into beautiful, sustainable, living spaces.
